The 2020 varsity basketball season ended for the Morgan Academy Lady Senators and Senators on Wednesday, Feb. 12, but not before both quads reached the Elite 8 of the AISA AAA Basketball Tournament at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex in Montgomery.
The Morgan Academy varsity girls 7-14 overall lost to Pike Liberal Arts 40 to 26 and the Morgan Academy varsity boys 16-8 lost to Macon-East 56-46.
Top scorers for the Lady Senators Wednesday were Bailey Brown with 10 points and KaLee Jones with 8 points. And Averee Adams and KaLee Jones were both selected to the AISA All-Star Team.
Morgan Academy head girls basketball coach Lebo Jones said, “We will be very young next year, but we have some good talent coming up. We should be very competitive.”
Top scorers for the Senators Wednesday were Milam Turner with 24 points, Rhyne Williams with 8 points, George Turner with 8 points and Jeremy Lee with 7 points.
Morgan Academy head boys basketball coach Luke Hutcheson said, “I am very proud of the way my guys played this season. We had a great group of seniors in Milam Turner, Ethan Cargill, Jeremy Lee and Richard Alan Waters who played major roles in our team’s success.”
Lee averaged 21 points a game, which Hutcheson said ”has not been done at Morgan in a very long time.” He also said, “Milam (Turner) did a fantastic job at point guard, whether it was scoring or facilitating for others. And Richard and Ethan always gave everything they had on the defensive end and rebounding.”
Hutcheson said he has some key players returning next year, in George Turner, Chris Gardner, Osagie Aghedo, Rhyne Williams and Andrew Thomas. And he said he expects several sophomore players to step up and play major roles on the team next year.
