Selma realtor Joyce Harris hosted a grand opening Thursday for her new event venue Courtyard by the River in a former warehouse fronting the Alabama River behind Water Avenue.

Harris, who bought the historic property at 7 Green Street for weddings, baby showers, parties and meetings, welcomed more than 100 supporters for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the venue. Her supporters included her mother, Mary Shivers, whom she had cut the ribbon on Shivers’ 84th birthday.

Harris has already hosted several gatherings and expects to fit 125 people inside and more in the courtyard outside.

The Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce organized the ribbon cutting.
