The Alabama Department of Labor recently released the official count for initial claims filed during the week of June 28 – July 4, including 19,058 statewide and 249 in Dallas County.

According to the Alabama Department of Labor for the week, 19,058 initial claims were filed either online or by telephone and 11,375 of those claims were COVID-19 related.

Since March 14 there were 6,282 initial unemployment insurance claims filed in Dallas County. With a low of 23 and a high of 1,019, the weekly breakdown of initial unemployment insurance claims filed in Dallas County since March 14 is as follows: March 14, 23; March 21, 48; March 28, 460; April 4, 1,019; April 11, 760; April 18, 612; April 25, 617; May 2, 295; May 9, 320; May 16, 291; May 23, 329; May 30, 232; June 6, 228;  June 13, 218; June 20, 302; June 27, 279 and July 4, 249.

Industries with the most number of claims for the week ending July 4 were: Industry Not Available (6,717), followed by Administrative and Support Services (1,598), Food Service and Drinking Places (1,567), Transportation Equipment Manufacturing (833), General Merchandise Stores (463), Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services (381), Educational Services (374), and Nursing and Residential Care Facilities (373).

Jefferson County had largest number of claims for the week with 2,688 initial claims.
