Morgan Academy’s head football coach and athletic director is leaving Morgan Academy. Josh Thacker made the announcement Friday, March 20.
Thacker said, “I will be coaching in the fall in the AHSAA” but would not confirm yet where. He said he will make the announcement shortly.
“So many great memories with great people… Morgan wasn’t just a place to work, it was my home. I loved every second of working there for a great administration and working with the best guys in the world,” he said.
“Over 4 years, our coaching staff and entire program became a big family and for that, I’ll forever be indebted to the Academy. Our football players made me a better man and a better coach. It’s hard leaving behind so many memories of tears and laughter, especially when so many had a hand in helping raise my son.
“As a coach, you hope to impact young men and women in a positive way but the truth is, they had a bigger impact on me. The Thackers will be Senators Forever, Morgan Forever.”
Morgan Academy Headmaster Mark Knight said of Thacker’s departure, “I hate to lose Coach Thacker. He and I came to Morgan Academy four years ago. The board asked us to restore discipline back into athletics and the school, and I think we’ve done that. He taught our young men to work hard and have integrity on and off the field.”
Knight said, “The boys always played hard for him, which is a reflection of his leadership and their respect. Coach Thacker is a great coach with an especially sharp offensive mind. Each year, he had attractive job offers, and we were lucky to have him for as long as we did. We wish him and Kayla good luck.”
The John T. Morgan Academy Senators closed out the 2019 season with a 42-13 win over non-regional opponent Cornerstone Christian School on the road in Columbiana on Nov. 1.
With the win, the AISA AAA Region 1 Senators improved to 4-7 overall and remained 0-4 in regional play.
