The trial date for a man charged with the theft of a Confederate monument in 2021 has been set for February 2023.

Last year Jason Warnick, 33, was arrested for allegedly stealing a monument dedicated to Confederate President Jefferson Davis from Live Oak Cemetery in Selma.

A group calling itself White Lies Matter demanded that the United Daughters of the Confederacy display a quote from an activist of the Black Liberation Army in return for the chair.

According to the Montgomery Advertiser the trial date has been set for Feb. 6, 2023. A virtual pre-trial conference has been scheduled for Jan. 17 at 10 a.m.

In May, Dallas County Judge Collins Pettway Jr. refused to dismiss the charges against Warwick, who has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property.
