On April 12, Selma Mall will allow the public to come for a “Park and Pray” event to be held at its parking lot in place of the usual Easter services that have been cancelled in many communities throughout the nation and worldwide.
Even with the statewide shelter in place order that started Saturday at 5 p.m., “drive-in” worship services are allowed as long as all participants remain in their vehicles for the entirety of the service; the participants in each vehicle all share the same place of residence; and participants do not come within six feet of participants in other vehicles.
Many churches and other religious buildings remain closed for the public’s safety due to the outbreak of coronavirus, which has infected more than 1 million people worldwide, including 239,279 in the U.S. according to the CDC.
At the Selma Mall’s “Park and Pray” event, people will be asked to park in the lot and lot leave their cars. They will be asked to turn on their emergency flashers as they perform prayers in the lot.
The event will be held at 6:45 p.m. on April 12. Selma Mall is located at 1391 E Highland Ave.
